My favorite prank~

My family growing up was never big into pranks or April Fool's day antics,  so it's been pretty funny marrying into The Joe's family.  We have one sister and bro-in-law in particular that LOVE to prank and they definitely don't confine themselves to April 1st. You'll get pranked by them all year long. They'll steal your car, wrap the front of your door with butcher paper...only to do it again a couple hours later, or my personal favorite....

Coming home from a morning run to find that {{SURPRISE}}, your house is for sale.

Sticking a sign in the yard wasn't quite good enough, so they rented a helium tank and made a huge balloon arch to draw attention to the sale.

The kids were in balloon heaven and we were fielding questions all week about our upcoming move.

They also sent the parents on a surprise mission to the same morning.

All of this when Betsy was just days away from giving birth to baby #3.
Super funny.

Are you into pranking?

Do you try and pull things off of April Fool's day, or is that too obvious?

Have you been fooled on April 1st?

What's your favorite prank?

Easter Printable

Find the print HERE

What this house needs is an oversized decorative wooden toolbox...

~HELLO~

I haven't decided for sure exactly why my house needs an oversized toolbox,
but if your house needs one too....here's how it's done.

*4'X2' sheet of 1/2'' mdf, a dowel and a piece of plywood for the bottom

Measure and cut four 12'' pieces out of the sheet of mdf

Fold a paper in half and draw the shape of your sides, beginning 12'' up from the bottom.

Unfold the paper and trace it onto your board.

Cut the shapes out with a bandsaw

Measure and drill 1'' holes.

Nail it all together and cut a piece of plywood to fit the bottom of the toolbox.

Paint

The jury is still out on what to do with it.

I'll either use it to hold potted plants on the front porch
or put it in the entryway to collect shoes.

Easter Display~

Have any of these floating around your house from last year?

Yes, I did save all of mine, but unfortunately I bought really crappy ones that don't want to close.
I think I'm going to have to buy some new ones anyway.

I don't really want to throw them out, so I stuck them in my polka dotty platters.

I'm not usually a fan of purple, but I'm really diggin it this morning for some reason.

I painted an "as-is" IKEA door and designed a vinyl image for the front.

I {{heart}} eggs in a big way.
I have a hard boiled egg almost every day for breakfast. YUM!

It did take me a while to get over being grossed out by them after our failed incubation experiment in second grade, but I'm fully over that now and enjoy them immensely.

I totally love that we get to celebrate with them!

I think this may be the only purple thing in my house! Yay me for branching out!

Shelfy shelf shelf...

Last night I was shelf dreaming.
I was trying to design something for our upstairs family room.

I has been bugging me that we haven't had a place for people to hang coats when they visit.

Of course you're always in the mood to make something when you have a crazy busy day.
Luckily I went with a pretty simple design, so it only took about 45 minutest to put together.

I bought some 8'' X 6' boards, a 6' piece of crown and some scrappy scraps for the sides.

First I drew the lines for the shape of my side supports.

I really didn't want to use side supports. I thought It'd look better without them,
but the weight of this shelf demanded support.

I tried to make them as small as possible.

Next, I measured where I was planning on drilling for pegs.
It was a little tricky using a drill press by myself with such a big board.
I should have made a neighbor be my drill press buddy.  I'm sure they would have loved that:)

After nailing the sides and top, I cut down the piece of crown so it fit snuggly into place.

Tappy tap tap the pegs into place

This was a heavy shelf so I definitely wanted to use a stud finder.

Actually I'm just trying to come up with an excuse to show you this graph Ty sent to me.

Just try to tell me you haven't seen a guy do that....
Ha ha ha.

I'm pretty excited to have a place to hang coats,
oh and of course another place to display knickety knacks.

Mmmm.. I love shelves. I love pegs....I LOVE Spring!

Super last minute St. Patrick's day treat~

If you'd like to get the kids a little treat for St. Patrick's day, but don't want to spend a lot of money,
run down to the dollar store and pick up some supplies.

These little buckets in the wedding section are perfect,
but if they don't happen to carry them  at your dollar store,
paper cups or little terra cotta vases would work just as well!

You can paint them black if you are more ambitious than I am.

Also, grab some goldish looking candies.
One Lemonhead bag fills about 2 buckets

especially when you add a couple of Peanut Butter Cups.

You can buy craft sticks, or just break a piece of spaghetti in half and tape it to the back of the tag.

Have a happy and fun St. Patrick's day!

Bookshelf Love~

Do you dream about bookshelves?
I do.

We are in process of deciding what type of built-ins we'd like to tackle.
We have a front room with a slanted wall, and this pictures just about pushed me over the edge.

Do you have built-ins in your home?

If so, where? Do you use them for books?

Or do you use them for knickity knacks?

I absolutely love the idea of having a ladder next to a bookshelf.
Do any of you actually have one? Is it practical with young kids?

Sometimes when I am searching the web for inspiration,
it takes me a long time to find things that I love.

Not the case with bookshelves, there are too many to love.

What are your bookshelf dreams?
