Decorative plates and DIY plate stands

I picked up a few plates at the dollar store today.

I wanted to have "trick or treat" plates, including the definition of each word.

If you don't have a vinyl machine,
just grab these images, print them and use Mod Podge to stick them to your plates.

After I had the plates made I realized that I didn't have any stands to put them on.

I had to improvise.

I cut a few blocks out of a 2x4

Then I cut an "L" shape with a little notch in the lip.
I used a bandsaw, but you could also use a jigsaw.

I'll admit, not the fanciest, but functional...yes.

The Joe tried to compete with me by making what would have been a clearly superior model,

but he got bored and gave up before finishing, so I win by forfeit.

I painted them black and they were ready to hold plates!

Halloween Subway Art take 2...

Find your way around Halloween town with this direction subway art
You have to visit Jacko's Lantern, Black's Cauldron and don't forget Little's shop of horrors!

I had a lot of fun time creating this vinyl set.

I found a scrap piece of wood in Ikea's As-Is department for $3 and used the table saw to cut it into smaller pieces. I was praying the whole time that I'd walk away with all of my fingers. That saw gives me the heebie geebies.  It probably wouldn't have looked out of place to have bloody fingers on a halloween sign, but I'm grateful that all my digits made it out alive.

I painted the board white, rubbed it with a little bit of Gel Stain and stuck the vinyl on top!

I cut out some bats to stick on the lampshade.

The vinyl for this Halloween sign is $15+$4 S&H
The bats are not included in this set because I just downloaded them and I'm not too excited about breaking copyright laws.  You can find them HERE

The vinyl is 19''X13.5''

Happiness Sign

Last week my sweet mother had her birthday.

I wanted to make her a sign that included part of one of her favorite scriptures.   I changed the "lived" to "live".

One of my favorite things about my mom is that she is truly happy. She believes that happiness is a choice, not a reaction to what life sends your way.  Despite intense physical pain her entire life, she always has a positive attitude.  She has often said that she is actually grateful for the set of trials that she has been given.

She believes that happiness comes by living the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  She is like the Savior in so many ways. She is patient, kind, long suffering, forgiving, intelligent, quick to show love, and a good listener.  I am so grateful for her example and her friendship.

Happy Birthday Mom.

Halloween sign

Even though it is not yet October, I'm in such a fall mood. I love it when the seasons change and I feel like it's happening at the right time.  I'm not pining for more summer months. I'm just excited to wear sweaters and to drive up in the canyon and see the changing leaves.

I thought it might be fun to make a Halloween sign with a collection of words.

I painted a piece of scrap wood and made a collage of Halloween words out of vinyl with different fonts.

After applying the vinyl I rubbed the entire surface with gel stain.

My kids were so excited about this sign. They loved reading all of the different words and with each one you'd hear,"oh yeah!".  I guess I'm not the only one who's looking forward to the season changing.

If you'd like to buy the vinyl for this project it will be $12+$4 Shipping
(U.S. orders only)

You are welcome to pick up orders if you are close to Eagle Mtn.,Ut.

If you are making this project you will need a board that is 13.5''tall and 27''wide or larger.

You will be sent a paypal invoice for your order.

Super easy Halloween centerpieces

Here are a few super dooper easy ideas for Halloween centerpieces:

Pick up a few wine glasses @ the dollar store, candles and candy corn.

Fill the glasses halfway with candy and stick a candle on top. Like I said, super easy!

You can also turn the wine glasses over and use them for candlesticks.
Pair them with real candlesticks for an interesting collage.

Or layer candy in a  tall glass jar.

Mix and match candles and glasses.

Easy.... and fun for little sneaky fingers too!

ummm.... what is that?!

Interesting finds at The D.I. this morning.

I don't even know what this is or why I like it so much, but it was only 2 bones.
It actually does look like something you'd buy with bones. Ha ha ha..
On the back there are some printed maps of Ethiopia.

I don't know....
When I was paying for my goodies the checker said, "Oh, you must just want that for the board.".

"Uh-hum, no, I actually like it."

I also had to buy a few candles to line my staircase.

As well as some extra cute little plates that I haven't decided what to do with yet.

I think I'm just in the mood for random today.

Do you ever feel that way?

On the way home I bought some Cracker Jacks for the kids after school snacks.

Cracker Jacks fit my mood today.

Empty Frames

How do you feel about empty frames on your walls?

Are they quirky and fun...

Airy and appealing...

Or do they feel too empty?  Do you want to stick something in them?

Does it bother you to make a cazillion holes in your walls?

Or do they add the perfect touch?

Do you have empty frames in your home?
