just in case you missed these....

I'm in love with these owl cupcakes made by

They make me happy.

We'll be making them for a class party on Friday.

I used Ding Dongs instead of cupcakes, because we can't bring food in that isn't store bought.

I also substituted candy corn for the nose.

too.much.fun

To get the white goop equally on both sides of the cookie,
I took a string and pulled it right through the center. Otherwise you have to use 2 cookies for each owl.

I'm giving a big WOOT WOOT to
for this fantastic party idea!

Halloween sign and holder

Check out this cute bead board door I found for a couple dollars:

Such a cutie! Even more so with an oversized hook.

I'm using a wooden plate that my Mother-in-law Kathy gave to me a couple of months ago.
She always has cool things like this floating around.

After adding vinyl and tacking in picture holders, we're ready to welcome trick or treaters.

I think I'll leave the door up after Halloween and use it to hang wreaths or other seasonal decor.
I love how wreaths look, but I'm not a fan of how much they scratch up my front door.

What about you? Are you a fan of hanging things on the front door?
If so, what do you use to prevent banging and scratching?

Adding Trim to the Kitchen

I felt like my kitchen needed some color, but I really didn't want to paint the whole thing. I am really liking having white on the walls. It makes the great room feel really open and bright.

I decided that I could probably add some color if I put up some high trim.  I like the idea of high trim because you can get away with using paint that is a darker shade.

Here's the dining area before picture:

To create a straight line I used a drywall square and put dots around the room that were all 16'' from the ceiling.

I connected the dots by turning the drywall square sideways and using it as a straight edge.

Even though all the dots were 16'' from the ceiling, I also tested the line with a level.
Sometimes the ceiling isn't always straight.

I bought casing for the trim and the total for the whole room was only $20.
I cut the trim with a chop saw.
For the corners and edges of the room, I cut at a 45 degree angle to make the pieces fit together nicely.

I used a pneumatic nail gun to hang the trim. I love that thing!  It makes hanging trim a snap!

I went with a dark grayish blue paint.

I started painting the wall before I put the trim up and I really did NOT like the color. It seemed way too dark. Once I got the trim up, I really loved it!  Trim is so much fun!!

Give Thanks

Printable Halloween Gift Tags

Hey there everybody! We had a great 1000 rockin followers celebration last week! Thanks for entering for all the delicious giveaways! I loved getting a taste of your personalities! Just to be fair, I'd like to answer the questions I made you answer:

*Favorite dessert: I'm going to go with a good standby. Brownies and ice cream. I prefer the corner edge piece of a chewy fudge brownie. You also have to use a good brand of vanilla ice cream. No chocolate, hot fudge or anything on top. Just the sweet cold ice cream which makes the brownie a tiny bit chewier. Y.U.M.

*Favorite Movie: I don't really have a favorite, but I quite enjoyed"The Brothers Bloom". Quirky, different, fun.

*Favorite thing to do to relax: I'm teaching myself how to play the piano which is very relaxing, but I also enjoy reading and painting.  I will sometimes try to relax by watching T.V., but I can't enjoy that unless the house is clean.

*My mother always taught me to...Enjoy life. Laugh a lot and that family is the most important thing on this planet.

* Least favorite household job: Mopping. The funny thing is that I don't actually mind mopping, but the anticipation of having to mop just about does me in.  When I'm in the thick of it, it's really not bad at all.

Now that that's out of the way, I guess I should be announcing the winners of Friday's giveaway!
The lucky winner of the "How-To Slipcover" DVD is:

Here's Shelly to tell us a little bit about her site:

What I thought would be a blog mostly about paper crafting and polymer clay, has been more about re-do's, yard sales and working with what you have.  I have very few paper crafting posts so far.  Maybe that is because most of my crafting room is filled with boxes! :) Something I am working on!  I am very excited to participate in Andy's GIve-Away!

Thanks so much Shelly!!!
