Next on the list...tackle the towel rack.

These little metal towel racks just don't work for my family.  After 5 bathing kids, that bathroom is a total disaster.

To solve the problem I used a cabinet door from an old entertainment center.  I used its buddy  for THIS.

I was so happy to be reunited with our drill press after all this time in storage! I stuck a 1/2'' bit on the end and went to town making holes in this sucker.  I put a little bit of wood glue on the end of the pegs and hammered them into place!

I decided to paint the pegboard white, so the wall color needed to change. Since that bathroom is almost always open, I used the same color as I used for my kitchen bar. It's called Spanish Olive by Glidden. I used a Satin finish. I know for bathrooms it's better to use a Semi-gloss, but I didn't want to....so there.

Here it is all finished and ready to hold 5 towels!

Cha-Check that one off the to-do list!!

A chair over there

Happy Monday!

I've been looking and looking for a chair with a fabric seat that I could redo.  I finally found one!  I got this at DI and have been so excited to refinish my first chair.

First, was to take off the seat.  There was a screw in each corner.  Then, it was time to take off the old fabric...Look how many staples were in it!

Oy! It ended up being pretty easy, though.  If I just pulled the fabric back a piece at a time, the staples would pop up.
Then, I took the piece of fabric off of the chair and laid it on top of my new fabric and traced the shape... Cut it out and stapled it back on!

I was sure to pull really tight as I went around. I also did all four sides first and then the corners.  The corners are folded pretty much like wrapping a present.

I sanded, primed and painted the chair.  Then, did a little sanding and stain.  I took zero pictures of this part. Oh well.

And here's the finished product...

Before....After...

Fun!

think about it Thursday...

Today I am thinking about how awesome it feels to finally get something done that has been waiting for over a year!

A few posts ago I talked about the quilt that I have been wanting to make forever! Well...yesterday I finally pulled out my brand new sewing machine that I got for Christmas and I finished it!!! Yep you read that right...I finished it! Well...almost...I'll explain in a minute...

Does anyone else get intimidated by new things? I TOTALLY do! This new high tech sewing machine is very VERY different from the 1970's avocado model that I usually borrow from my mom. I whipped out the owners manual and got started by filling a new bobbin, threading it, and threading the machine...lets just say that it took about the same amount of time as it did to do half the quilt! I really didn't want to do it wrong and so it took me forever! lol

I had already cut all the material into squares LAST YEAR so I laid everything out just the way that I wanted it and started sewing the squares together into strips.

Next step for me was to iron all of the seams flat.

I sewed all the strips together and then ironed all of those seams flat too.

If you do it right everything should lay nice and flat. I missed a seam here and a seam there, but I just ironed it flat anyway. ; )

This is what it looks like all together. Now I all needed to do was sew on the border.

Here it is!!! I can't believe that it came together that quickly...why I put it off so long...who knows...probably the same reason I still have all of 2007 and 2008 to scrap book.

When I purchased the material I picked up a few business cards of ladies who do machine quilting. I knew that I really wanted my quilt...quilted?!!?! So I gave a few a call and a really great lady quoted me a fantastic price and even was near my house around 6pm yesterday so we met and I handed it over. I promise to post pictures in a few weeks of it ALL done! I can't wait. So after finishing the top all I had to do was cut the backing (which is the pocca dot material) and give it to her. She had the batting and everything. She is going to use Warm and Natural batting. Anyhoo!! I am SO excited! It came together exactly how I pictured in my head. (don't you love when that happens too!)

I think anytime you get something on a list done it feels awesome! What can you do to feel awesome TODAY??

THINK ABOUT IT...

Home Improvement Project No.1

I sometimes feel bad for the kitchen sink. When people pack up all of their belongings, what do they always leave? Yep, "everything but the kitchen sink".  Poor thing.  Today we are going to give the kitchen sink some much deserved attention.

Here's the oldie. Not old, I guess I should say former.  We didn't want to pay the builder for an upgraded sink when we knew it is something we could do on our own.

I didn't get a before shot with it in the island because I was trying to get Miss Mira to fall asleep for an hour and a half.  We're trying to say goodbye to the bink and it's not going well.  She is extremely strong willed and had a 90 min tantrum last night as well as one this morning at 5a.m.  "I just want my binky Mom, my orange binky"....{{cry, cry, cry.....SCREAM!!! Throw yourself down on the floor and repeat}}.

I'm getting sidetracked.

Hole.

I would have guessed that the sink wouldn't fit because it looks so much larger than the other one.

It fits!! I LOVE it!!

Miss Mira is sitting on my lap. When this picture came on screen she said,"Oh, it's so PRETTY!"
Funny that a 2 yr. old would think so, but I agree!!

A little Shade.

Oy. I have been looking for 2 days and can't find my camera's power cord anywhere! It is completely out of juice and is full of all the pictures I took for this post. I finally gave in and pulled out my camcorder. It has the ability to take still pictures, though they aren't good at all.  Better than nothing, though, I guess.

Ever since daylight savings we've been dealing with children who don't want to go to bed because it's "still light outside". Sound familiar?  My kids usually go to bed about 7:30....but it has moved until more like 8:30 since the time change.  Well, I decided to try something to help.   I bought a tan, suede curtain from a tent sale at DownEast Home about a year ago.  It's a Pottery Barn drape, regularly $79...but I got it for $10.  The measurements are 52x108.  That's right....extremely long!   It seemed like the perfect thing for some shade in my boy's room though.   Nice and thick.

I don't have any "during" to post since they're all on the dead camera.  Pretty much I just cut the drape in half and hemmed the bottoms and created a casing for rod on the side that didn't already have one.  It was very simple and quick. My husband helped me put up a little curtain rod and we're done.  Now, not only will the room be much darker, it will also keep it cooler in the summer.  This rooms gets very hot on summer evenings because of the way it faces.  Hopefully, this quick little project will help us get a little more sleep around here. :)
