Friday's Misfortunes....

Here is my kitchen. Brown and green. It is a very functional kitchen. More cabinets and countertops than I have ever had in my life. I like it, it's just missing a little...je ne sais quoi. I tried to do something about that on friday. I thought that maybe I could take this stamp and create a lacy looking pattern on the wall that would soften the room up. Maybe add a little charm. I chose the lighter green paint that I used on the opposing wall of the kitchen and started stamping. I really liked the first few rows, I used the countertop as a marker. Just a hint if you decide to do something like this: don't use the countertop as a marker. It might be fine if you don't have the oven gap and your builders made everything perfectly straight. It started out cute and then looked horribly disastrous as I got to the end.  I'm sorry I didn't get a picture of the train wreck, but I'm sure you can imagine.  I ended up just painting the whole section light green. My daughter thought it was white which made me even more irritated, don't ask me to explain why. I think I was just in a bad mood because my hand was cramping from stamping( ooh, I like that phrase). So, the moral of the story is, if you like this look you should MEASURE your lines out on the wall!! My poor kitchen is still missing a little je ne sais quoi.  Any ideas??? In my frustration I went shopping...I try not to combine that emotion with that action very frequently, but I found some cute ceramics on sale. I think it did help to have something on top of the cabinets.

  1. My favorite picture is the one with the Ramen on the countertop. It adds in some nice color. Maybe all you need to do is have different color food sitting out on your counter at all times...you know, for a little pizzaz! :)

  3. Nice! I've got to do something with my kitchen too...but that's a project for another day when there is a little more in the pocket book. I like the knick knacks you put up on top of the cabinets though. I've thought about doing it too but thus far the only thing up there is stuff I don't have any other place for. Oh, BTW, I heard of a store up in West Valley that has great deals on things if you don't mind little scratches here or there or having to change it up a little to make it work. (You might already know about it, but let me know if you don't and I'll get you an address.) Loved your little candy holder too! So creative!

About your kitchen,I think "wheat" - stencil or freehand - Dry wheat grass in bouquets over the green backsplash. you can bring something from the nature to your kitchen, hummm I can smell fresh bread comes out of the oven... Good Luck
