Poker Chip Rings

Pa pa pa poker face pa pa poker face.
Just trying to make you suffer as I have,
having that song stuck in my head all day long

I'm blaming today's project:
Poker Chip Rings!

What you need:
*Glue: Epoxy or E6000.

*Rings with a flat pad
I found these at Hobby Lobby. Wait until they are 50% off!!

*Poker Chips

*Accessories
such as postage seal stickers, buttons or flowers.

Glue the ring to the bottom of a poker chip

If you are using buttons, it's nice to add a little color with a postage sticker.

The poker chip gives you a nice big flat surface for the flowers!

Glue on buttons or other accessories.

I could sit here all day with Grandma Minnie's bucket of buttons!!

Can't read my, can't read my, no you can't read my poker face...
Just making sure it's officially good and stuck.

Post extension:
The stickers will slide off, so glue them down if you want them to stay!

Easy washer bracelet~

Here's another take on the popular washer necklaces. Turn the decorated washers into a simple bracelet.

Here's how:

You'll of course need a washer. You can Mod Podge paper onto the top like this one, or just leave it plain.

If you want the top to be nice and glossy you can put Diamond Glaze on it and wait four hours for it to dry.

You'll also need a piece of ribbon and a little velcro.  I didn't have any velcro, so I stole a little off an old baseball cap.

To find out the length of ribbon you will need for your bracelet, wrap a piece of ribbon around your wrist twice.

Cut off the excess ribbon and sew velcro onto opposite sides.

Weave the ribbon through the middle of your washer. Velcro ends first.

Put your arm into the hole you've just created and wrap the ends around your wrist.

Pull the ends around your wrist and attach the ends together with the velcro.  Your bracelet should be snug. If it's too long, cut off a little of your ribbon and re-sew the velcro.  If it's too small, start over with a new piece of ribbon, or give it to someone with a smaller wrist:)

Hair Pins

I chopped my hair off for the summer time. I love having it short, except for the fact that you can't do the whole pony tail thing when you are in a hurry. I've decided that bobby pins are the short haired girls pony tail.  I use them constantly. I thought I would make some cute hair pins for me and as a gift for my SIL birthday.  If you want something to do that's super easy and relatively inexpensive-this is project is for you. Here are the materials you'll need. I got all my supplies at Walmart. Back in the fabric department they have really large buttons with cute designs. They are $2 for a set of 3. I found some hair pins that have a flat surface on the top $2.50 for a set of 6.   You'll need to use epoxy to glue those suckers on. Anything else is just going to pop off. Use a toothpick to wipe the glue onto the pin. You don't want to get too much and glue the pin together.  While the glue dried I stuck the clip back on the edge of the paper so that if some of the glue seeped out I could just rip the paper backing off. You'll have to look at your epoxy bottle to see how long you'll need to let them dry. Mine took 24 hrs, but the seem to be holding tight so far!  Tomorrow is Creative Cats so drop by again tomorrow and bring something for show and tell!  I can't wait to see your projects!!

Recycling Belts Chapter 2...

Bracelets!! There are a couple of ways to make belt bracelets. The first is a more chunky look. It's the easiest and cheapest one. All you have to do is wrap the belt around your arm and figure out how long it needs to be. Then you will cut it into a curved shape to resemble the end of a belt. It doesn't get any easier than that. Especially if you are using a belt with double holes because you won't even have to punch holes. For the star bracelet I had to punch a couple of holes in it. That was super duper easy too. In the snap kit I bought it had a tool that you could punch holes into things. The kit I bought was less than $3 at Walmart, so it wasn't anything fancy pants. Joe liked the chunky ones. He said they were "boss" so that sounds pretty good. To make the other bracelets I just added a snap. The snaps I bought really weren't quite heavy duty enough, but I made it work with some tweaking. They are perfect for say making a bracelet out of measuring tape. My kids all want one!! It's nice to be able to make them all for a couple bucks!!

Recycling Belts

I ran across these belts at D.I. yesterday.I had no idea what I could do with them, but it seemed like an interesting challenge. I mean, there must be some fun things you could do....and at a buck-fifty each, it wasn't too much of an investment if I couldn't figure something out. I was heading for the check out when I spotted this cute mini-skirt.I thought to myself, "Wow, I would look so hot in that!" Actually, no, that's not what I was thinking. I thought it would make a cute little purse. I love the tie in the front and the belt loops. I could also use one of my newly purchased belts for the handle. I turned the purse inside out and made it a little smaller by putting a seem up the side.I then sewed the bottom. Really easy...in fact, you know if I ever sew anything then it's the simplest thing you could ever make. I can't sew very well. I get angry with the sewing machine, so I have to pick and choose my battles.Anyhoo, I cut the belt so that once it was sewed on I could still see the buckle. I think that's the cute part. I tried to muscle it through the sewing machine, but I wasn't having much success, so I just took embroidery thread and sewed it around the holes in the belts so I didn't even have to go through it. Woohoo!! My first belt project!! I'm thinking I'd like to make some bracelets with one of the others. I need some pretty heavy duty snaps for that. Has anyone done something like that before and know the best thing to use?

Even easier pants fix..

After I posted about turning my daughters ripped up jeans into capris Sarah told me about a much easier (and cuter) solution. She traces a heart from a cookie cutter over the shredded part of the jeans. She then puts a piece of fabric on the inside and stitches around the heart.
She cuts out the heart and you have a cut little patchwork heart knee! I hope I described that accurately. (Don't hate me Sarah) But I also wanted to brag about the coolest ever apron that she made!!Do you want to hear the most amazing part?? She used dishtowels that she found on clearance at Target for only $2.48!! That blows my mind!! It turned out so cute!! She is the queen of good bargains! I love it!!

Today's happenings

I worked on a couple of projects today. I made some letter blocks for my newest niece Afton.
That was kind of frustrating because I couldn't figure out the vinyl and wasted about 3 feet of it and then I made the "A" too big and had to cut it down by hand. Ah, well. The other thing I did was try to find a way to extend the life of my daughters jeans. She is amazingly brutal on her clothes. I don't really want to go out and buy a bunch of pants to get her through the rest of the school year, but I feel pretty embarrassed sending her to school in these.
I decided to turn them into capris. I cut off the jeans just over the gaping hole and I also cut the very bottom cuff off because I don't like to hassle with that kind of stuff, so I just reuse the original ones from the pants if they are in decent enough shape. I used an old scarf, but any piece of material would work. I just sewed the scarf in between the two pieces of pant and you've got instant capris!

Skirt Purse

OK so maybe we hate to admit it, but we all have clothes in our closet that don't fit like we would hope. I was looking at my wardrobe today and decided to say goodbye to a jean skirt. I love the look of the pockets and details at the top of the skirt. First I cut it off just under the pockets. My daughter starting lecturing me that I was making my skirt too short. Next I turned it inside out and sewed it across the bottom. I turned it back around and threaded an old sash through the belt loops and tied it. An old tie would also work well. I love how it turned out and I especially love that it only took 5 minutes. It would also look cute decorated with vintage buttons.

Aprons!!

I finally finished the aprons I was making for the kidlets for Christmas! What a relief to have that out of the way!  I hope they fit! I'm sure it would have taken someone else way less time to make these.  I don't really have very much common sense when it comes to sewing.
