Sofa Table Refashion

My sweet MIL gave me this red sofa table.
I'm excited to have it, but I did want to refashion it a bit.

I stripped off the red using a spray stripper.
After waiting 15 minutes the paint really pulled off well.

When I got off as much paint as I could I sanded....

I wanted the table to be very neutral so I chose a color called "Goose Feather". I sanded it again and rubbed it with gel stain.  I didn't really love the mirrors, so The Joe took a sheet of beadboard with him to work and cut me some rectangular pieces to fit into the holes.

I started painting them the same color as the table and realized It just wasn't going look like I'd pictured in my mind. Goose Feather beadboard just wasn't going to cut it.

Time to switch-a-roo to fabric. I started rummaging thru the ol' closet and found a skirt that was a wee bit too short, but I haven't been able to toss because I like the pattern.

I cut it up and used spray adhesive to stick it to the beadboard.

I glued the fabric covered boards onto the table with E6000. My sister gave me a new tube for my b-day! Thanks again Sawdust(yes, that's a nickname and no, it's not for the obvious reason).

So now I have my lovely sofa table all ready to go! I'm not really to sure where it will live in my house yet, but I stuck it up against the kitchen wall to get a few pics!

Thanks for spending a few moments with me here on Poppies at Play!

  1. LOVE what you did here. I just gave away one of these in a black lacquer that I was stumped what to do with. Now I am kicking myself. I've been on the prowl for another one since I let mine go!

  2. Wow what a transformation! Great job.

  3. Great results with the fabric added.
